My name is Jennie. I'm a wife and a mother. I have been married to the man of my dreams, Trever, for 9 wonderful years. We have 5 beautiful daughters who fill our lives with joy and excitement. We just had our 6th child. Our son Caleb.

I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Placenta Accreta along with Placenta Previa. Accreta is a condition where the placenta attaches to the scar tissue in the uterus. It will often continue to grow to deeper tissue (increta) and even through the uterus attaching to other organs(percreta). I ended up having an 11 hour surgery, including a hystorectomy, and bladder repair. I received 7 units of blood and blood parts. (This is a lot of blood loss for my surgeons, but minimal blood loss to those who are not as experienced in these deliveries. I spent 36 hours in the ICU after surgery. I have also had many other complications afterwards including another minor surgery 2 weeks later. These complications are somewhat normal for the type of surgery I had.

I had a team of specialists doing my surgery. Obgyns, Gyno-oncologists, trauma surgeons, urologists and anesthesiologists. This team has specialized in techniques helping with minimal blood loss. Those with accreta , loose large amounts of blood because the placenta cannot detach naturally at delivery.

My goal is to help save women's lives by giving this terrible condition a voice. So many are ignorant to its fatal attack. Doctors and women alike, need to be educated about Accreta. Many have never even heard of it. The numbers are on the rise because of so many women choosing to have c-sections when it isn't necessary. Not all women can avoid it, but many can. Please help me give Accreta a voice, by sharing the information in this blog. (There are numerous posts with information on Accreta as well as the Accreta team who took such great care of me.)

I'm back

I'm back from the cystogram. The technician was hilarious. He kept calling me girlfriend. He and the student were bantering back and forth about the size of the lighting of the x ray. He kept trying to explain that I was a smaller person (which was nice to hear by the way) so it looks bigger. If I was a heavier gal, then it would show less of my body. She kept saying that the machine wasn't adjusting to my size, or something to that effect. I have no clue about that world, but it sounded like she proved him wrong. It was so funny. She leaned towards me and said, I'm just a student. They hate when we prove them wrong. Ah, it was so funny. Had to be there.

The doctor then came in and did the cystogram. I told them that Dr. Hall wanted it slow and gentle. At first, he said, "this is encouraging" but then he saw the leak. Mainly vaginally, but a little bit into the abdomen. Go figure! So I went on my not so merry way, convinced that it was going to be a few weeks still.

I stopped by my old wing, on my way up to Caleb's room to say hi to my old nurses. A couple of them were there. It was good to see them. Then I came in and called Dr. Hall to let him know I was done and it was still leaking. At first he said, where did you get the cystogram done? I didn't want that done. I'm thinking, you told me last week to move it to Wednesday. Ugh. I love the man but he is a little all over the place sometimes. Lol anyway, he said well let me look at the images and ill call you right back. He called back and said it actually doesn't look that bad, so he wanted to see me tomorrow and he will take the drain out. Sweet! He has been so conservative up to this point, I'm hoping this is still a conservative move. I'd feel a lot better about it if the hole was fully closed. But, I still trust him. He is a good doctor. So tomorrow, I will be drain free! The drain has been the thing that has bugged me the most, so I am so excited to get that sucker out! I think abdominally ill be able to heal so much better with it out.

He wants to put me on antibiotics because the drainage is really nasty. I knew it couldn't be normal. I guess he could tell that in the x ray. Yucky stuff let me tell you. And it stinks! So happy to have that gone. I think the antibiotics may help with the holes being able to heal better too. I can imagine that if there is an infection, that it is keeping things from healing properly.

Now on the some exciting news, enough about my plumbing for the day... For my "fb friends" you already got the spoiler version yeaterday. I talked with Kelly down in the public relations department at the hospital yesterday. She said that the w banner website now has an Accreta page! I know, you are thinking "so what?" Well that means that now, we can move to getting my story out to the media! Hurray! So she has one news station that she sends stories to from time to time, that is really good about airing them. So she is going to go through them first. She wrote down my story and cleared it through me to make sure she did me justice. She is going to send it on over and send some pictures. So you may see our picture on the news. I'm not sure if ill get to be one one of these days, or how big they want to take it. But how cool is that? I feel like a celebrity. I know it's not huge, but it's a huge deal for me. I'm so excited! So I will let you all know when and where as I find out more details. It will probably be sometime next week. In the mean time, here is a link to the Accreta page.
