My name is Jennie. I'm a wife and a mother. I have been married to the man of my dreams, Trever, for 9 wonderful years. We have 5 beautiful daughters who fill our lives with joy and excitement. We just had our 6th child. Our son Caleb.

I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Placenta Accreta along with Placenta Previa. Accreta is a condition where the placenta attaches to the scar tissue in the uterus. It will often continue to grow to deeper tissue (increta) and even through the uterus attaching to other organs(percreta). I ended up having an 11 hour surgery, including a hystorectomy, and bladder repair. I received 7 units of blood and blood parts. (This is a lot of blood loss for my surgeons, but minimal blood loss to those who are not as experienced in these deliveries. I spent 36 hours in the ICU after surgery. I have also had many other complications afterwards including another minor surgery 2 weeks later. These complications are somewhat normal for the type of surgery I had.

I had a team of specialists doing my surgery. Obgyns, Gyno-oncologists, trauma surgeons, urologists and anesthesiologists. This team has specialized in techniques helping with minimal blood loss. Those with accreta , loose large amounts of blood because the placenta cannot detach naturally at delivery.

My goal is to help save women's lives by giving this terrible condition a voice. So many are ignorant to its fatal attack. Doctors and women alike, need to be educated about Accreta. Many have never even heard of it. The numbers are on the rise because of so many women choosing to have c-sections when it isn't necessary. Not all women can avoid it, but many can. Please help me give Accreta a voice, by sharing the information in this blog. (There are numerous posts with information on Accreta as well as the Accreta team who took such great care of me.)

Big Boy

We got to go see Caleb today! Lately we have only been able to have short visits because of doctors appointments and needing to get home to our other kids. Each moment I get with him is a treasure. I changed his diaper and held him for about twenty minutes. Yes, I am a baby hog! My gracious husband quietly lets me be one.

Caleb was chewing on his fingers a little bit and sucked on mine for s few seconds. He didn't like the taste of the hand sanitizer though. Lol his breathing is still short and rapid, so they don't push him during those times to take a bottle. They said that if he continues to do it, in about a week, they may check his heart etc to make sure there are no other issues. At this point they think he just needs to grow and develop more. He kept his breathing rates lower when he was on oxygen, but now that he is breathing on his own, he just needs to develop his lungs that much more. Then we can work on the sucking reflex.

Yesterday when I allied to check on him, the nurse said he was 5lbs 3oz. Today when we got there, his white board with stats, goals, nurses names etc. said that he was 5lbs 9oz! Can you believe it? 6 oz over night? It may be a mistake, we will have to see. He is getting so big. His preemie jammies were too short for him today. I guess it's time for newborn already. He will fit them length wise but be swimming in them every where else.

I had my Gyn-Oncology follow up today. They were glad to hear that all of the other doctors were taking good care of everything. They didn't want to do a full check up because of everything I still have going on. So we are going to follow up in about 4 weeks. They are slightly worried about my vaginal discharge. It's not just urin any more. It is still the same thick nasty stuff coming out my drain, so whatever it is, is wanting to leave, so that's good. We will just wait and see. Hopefully the doctor is right and it will all just heal on its own. He is hoping he is right as well. :)
