My name is Jennie. I'm a wife and a mother. I have been married to the man of my dreams, Trever, for 9 wonderful years. We have 5 beautiful daughters who fill our lives with joy and excitement. We just had our 6th child. Our son Caleb.

I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Placenta Accreta along with Placenta Previa. Accreta is a condition where the placenta attaches to the scar tissue in the uterus. It will often continue to grow to deeper tissue (increta) and even through the uterus attaching to other organs(percreta). I ended up having an 11 hour surgery, including a hystorectomy, and bladder repair. I received 7 units of blood and blood parts. (This is a lot of blood loss for my surgeons, but minimal blood loss to those who are not as experienced in these deliveries. I spent 36 hours in the ICU after surgery. I have also had many other complications afterwards including another minor surgery 2 weeks later. These complications are somewhat normal for the type of surgery I had.

I had a team of specialists doing my surgery. Obgyns, Gyno-oncologists, trauma surgeons, urologists and anesthesiologists. This team has specialized in techniques helping with minimal blood loss. Those with accreta , loose large amounts of blood because the placenta cannot detach naturally at delivery.

My goal is to help save women's lives by giving this terrible condition a voice. So many are ignorant to its fatal attack. Doctors and women alike, need to be educated about Accreta. Many have never even heard of it. The numbers are on the rise because of so many women choosing to have c-sections when it isn't necessary. Not all women can avoid it, but many can. Please help me give Accreta a voice, by sharing the information in this blog. (There are numerous posts with information on Accreta as well as the Accreta team who took such great care of me.)

Change of Plans

I have good news and bad news...which would you like first? Bad news? Ok bad news it is...I started bleeding heavy again. This is big bleed number two. Not good! The doctor is worried I won't make it another week and a half before the third one hits.

The good news is, there is an opening on Friday. So we will get to see this little man sooner! More bad news is, there is an opening because the other Accreta patient also started bleeding today (something with the moon perhaps? Or the water?) anyway she is 34 weeks so they are going to deliver today and giving me her slot on Friday. Also, that makes my baby only 31 weeks, but hey, we will take it. Not ideal but we made it this far.

We will also have to change the location of the yard sale. I'll keep you posted as soon as we nail down a spot.

We just got word that our sweet bishop moved up the ward fast for us. They had planned to fast this Sunday, but with the recent changes, it has moved to Friday. What a comfort that is, to know that so many will be fasting and praying for me, Caleb, the doctors etc. on the day of the surgery. Just knowing that calms my fears about going into surgery. Ill keep you all updated as we know more.

  7. Jennie, you are doing great! I've been reading your blog and it's great to hear your good attitude through all of this. I am a friend of your sister in law, Brianne. My son was born last year (he turns a year this Saturday) at 28 weeks gestation. He spent 13 weeks in the NICU (with a few minor bumps in the road along the way) and is doing great now. I had pre-eclampsia with him, so our situations are a bit different, but just know that preemie babies do make it, and I'm sure your little Caleb will be just as miraculous as my Owen was and still is. I'm rooting for the both of you, and I hope things go super smoothly on Friday for you. Sending our blessings from Utah to you and your preemie miracle baby, and good luck to you in the coming weeks post delivery. With lots of prayer and faith, things will be okay. The Lord knows our needs and He takes care of us. :)
