My name is Jennie. I'm a wife and a mother. I have been married to the man of my dreams, Trever, for 9 wonderful years. We have 5 beautiful daughters who fill our lives with joy and excitement. We just had our 6th child. Our son Caleb.

I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Placenta Accreta along with Placenta Previa. Accreta is a condition where the placenta attaches to the scar tissue in the uterus. It will often continue to grow to deeper tissue (increta) and even through the uterus attaching to other organs(percreta). I ended up having an 11 hour surgery, including a hystorectomy, and bladder repair. I received 7 units of blood and blood parts. (This is a lot of blood loss for my surgeons, but minimal blood loss to those who are not as experienced in these deliveries. I spent 36 hours in the ICU after surgery. I have also had many other complications afterwards including another minor surgery 2 weeks later. These complications are somewhat normal for the type of surgery I had.

I had a team of specialists doing my surgery. Obgyns, Gyno-oncologists, trauma surgeons, urologists and anesthesiologists. This team has specialized in techniques helping with minimal blood loss. Those with accreta , loose large amounts of blood because the placenta cannot detach naturally at delivery.

My goal is to help save women's lives by giving this terrible condition a voice. So many are ignorant to its fatal attack. Doctors and women alike, need to be educated about Accreta. Many have never even heard of it. The numbers are on the rise because of so many women choosing to have c-sections when it isn't necessary. Not all women can avoid it, but many can. Please help me give Accreta a voice, by sharing the information in this blog. (There are numerous posts with information on Accreta as well as the Accreta team who took such great care of me.)

Leaps and Strides

I realized the day after my last post, why I was having such a rough couple of days. Is just a lot harder to tell when it's that time of the month when you don't have a uterus. Haha. It was two days of feeling terrible, physically and emotionally. Mainly emotionally. Since then, I feel awesome. The past couple of days I have felt better than ever. Oh how I love to feel good and be able to move. I took my 3 rear old to target to grab a prescription for Caleb and was very briskly walking through the store without pain and minimal wearing out. Ah, it was so awesome! I still wear out easy, but after being in bed for almost 6 months, that is bound to happen. The great thing is that even though I wear out after about ten minutes... The activity level is increasing daily. So bigger and bigger things are what wears me out. Not so much the little stuff any more. I'm slowly building my muscle back and can't wait to start exercising and getting into shape. I never thought I'd say that. I hate to exercise. I'm a new woman now, and my desires have changed so much.

I took Caleb for his follow up with the GI doctors on Wednesday. The NICU wanted a follow up with  GI, speech and pulminology, to make sure all is well. He has been really constipated lately, so they put him on a mild stool softener to help him out. They also gave us the name of some preemie formulas to put him on. The good news is... We won't have to add extra powder to his bottle to add extra calories. And the preemie formula, already has the extra calories and nutrients that he needs. The bad part about it, is that those only come in the smaller can size, so it ends up being a lot more expensive because we can't buy in bulk. Oh well. What do you do? Nursing would go great if I could get rid of this thrush. Maybe if I wasn't eating so many stinkin Creamies each day. Have you heard of those? Oh my goodness, the best fudgecicle you have ever tasted! Sugar and yeast don't mix. Actually they mix too well and make things worse.

The greatest news from the dr is that Caleb is up to 9 lb 11oz. Two weeks ago when I took him in, he was 7 lbs 13 oz. he has done some serious growing the past couple of weeks! I am so excited that we get to bless him on Sunday! I got the cutest little white suit from Burlington coat factory. We are also going to celebrate Caleb, tomorrow night with friends and family. I love an excise to throw a party. And we are so thankful for everyone's love and support, that it is the least we can do. Back to the GI... She said that she doesn't see anything thing wrong with Caleb that he won't grow out of. Just typical preemie stuff. Reflux, breathing etc.

Good news from Jenifer. Well., good news, considering. She has only 6 days till surgery. She got an MRI done yesterday and it looks like she does have percreta. The good news is, that her bowels are not involved and her bladder is only slightly involved, like mine was. Oh and her cervix is involved as well. So they will have to take her cervix and a small amount of her bladder. Hers will hopefully be better than mine, because my uterus was attached to the bladder somehow... Not just placenta. So as long as her catheter doesn't poke a hole in her bladder, she may not have to have it for so long. Mine was originally going to only be in for ten days. This is going to be an emotional week for her I can imagine. Please continue to keep her in your prayers! Good luck Jenifer!!

  1. so, I know my uterus is attached to my bladder. Sorry... way too much info. :) I didn't know that it was until c-section 5. The doctor said they had to detach them to do the c-section. I asked if they would grow back together and he said for sure they already have. No bueno. We'll pray for Jen. Thanks for your email. After your last post I knew for sure we were kindred spirits. I have similar emotions. :) Good luck!
