I just got back from eating lunch in the little family area in the Nicu. I was watching the news for the first time in months. (We don't have streaming TV at home) the story ended and it showed the news anchors. I found myself gasping. For there on the screen was my neighbor/2nd cousin Dan Spindle. He is the morning anchorman for 15 news. It was so fun to see him on there. He just recently started anchoring for them. It was fun telling the other parents in there that I knew him. They were all shocked that I knew a celebrity. I felt the same way. It was so fun to watch. They asked me, "so is that really how he talks in real life?" Like is this his camera voice, or is he really himself on camera. I said yep, thats him. You made our day celebrity Dan! :)
Update on Caleb. Such a great day today. I spent the night last night here at the hospital. He is now eating ever 4hours and taking about 90 ccs. So 3 oz. they are letting him dictate when he is hungry and how much he wants to take, but that is pretty much what he has been doing. They did have to wake him up in the middle of the night because he slept right past his 4 hour mark. I am so proud of him. He is just doing awesome! They decided to add oatmeal to his food to thicken it just a bit. He is keeping it down and taking it so much better and faster now. They also have to give him pear juice to counteract the oatmeal effects. Poor kiddo. Hopefully I can get my milk supply built back up so we don't have to do this for long. Oatmeal does not smell good coming out, or up. Ick!
The doctors came in about 10 am while they were making their rounds. They were passing info onto the next shift of doctors. Dr. Martin said he looks like he will be ready to go tomorrow! As long as he is a good boy the next 24 hours, he will get to go home. He passed his car seat test last night. Since preemies usually aren't as developed and their heads are not as proportioned, they want to make sure they can make it home alive. Their heads can fall forward and cut off their air supply. So they have to sit in the car seat for an hour and a half (the amount of time depends on the state) without losing their oxygen.
He is getting ready to have his circumcision right now. :( Can I just say how thankful I am that I have had girls up to this point? I want to be there for him through it, but I fear mommy won't be able to make it through it. I hear its not a big deal and they promised to give him litacaine to numb it. I think it's just the concept of it all that makes me cringe! One step closer to going home though.
As of last night, he weighs 7lbs 7 oz. and he is a super star! I'm trying not to get my hopes up to go home tomorrow because that is just the way things have gone for us, but I'm just so stinking excited that it is even a possibility. We are making tons of progress here. I'm so proud of this little man!

My name is Jennie. I'm a wife and a mother. I have been married to the man of my dreams, Trever, for 9 wonderful years. We have 5 beautiful daughters who fill our lives with joy and excitement. We just had our 6th child. Our son Caleb.
I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Placenta Accreta along with Placenta Previa. Accreta is a condition where the placenta attaches to the scar tissue in the uterus. It will often continue to grow to deeper tissue (increta) and even through the uterus attaching to other organs(percreta). I ended up having an 11 hour surgery, including a hystorectomy, and bladder repair. I received 7 units of blood and blood parts. (This is a lot of blood loss for my surgeons, but minimal blood loss to those who are not as experienced in these deliveries. I spent 36 hours in the ICU after surgery. I have also had many other complications afterwards including another minor surgery 2 weeks later. These complications are somewhat normal for the type of surgery I had.
I had a team of specialists doing my surgery. Obgyns, Gyno-oncologists, trauma surgeons, urologists and anesthesiologists. This team has specialized in techniques helping with minimal blood loss. Those with accreta , loose large amounts of blood because the placenta cannot detach naturally at delivery.
My goal is to help save women's lives by giving this terrible condition a voice. So many are ignorant to its fatal attack. Doctors and women alike, need to be educated about Accreta. Many have never even heard of it. The numbers are on the rise because of so many women choosing to have c-sections when it isn't necessary. Not all women can avoid it, but many can. Please help me give Accreta a voice, by sharing the information in this blog. (There are numerous posts with information on Accreta as well as the Accreta team who took such great care of me.)
