My name is Jennie. I'm a wife and a mother. I have been married to the man of my dreams, Trever, for 9 wonderful years. We have 5 beautiful daughters who fill our lives with joy and excitement. We just had our 6th child. Our son Caleb.

I was diagnosed with a rare condition called Placenta Accreta along with Placenta Previa. Accreta is a condition where the placenta attaches to the scar tissue in the uterus. It will often continue to grow to deeper tissue (increta) and even through the uterus attaching to other organs(percreta). I ended up having an 11 hour surgery, including a hystorectomy, and bladder repair. I received 7 units of blood and blood parts. (This is a lot of blood loss for my surgeons, but minimal blood loss to those who are not as experienced in these deliveries. I spent 36 hours in the ICU after surgery. I have also had many other complications afterwards including another minor surgery 2 weeks later. These complications are somewhat normal for the type of surgery I had.

I had a team of specialists doing my surgery. Obgyns, Gyno-oncologists, trauma surgeons, urologists and anesthesiologists. This team has specialized in techniques helping with minimal blood loss. Those with accreta , loose large amounts of blood because the placenta cannot detach naturally at delivery.

My goal is to help save women's lives by giving this terrible condition a voice. So many are ignorant to its fatal attack. Doctors and women alike, need to be educated about Accreta. Many have never even heard of it. The numbers are on the rise because of so many women choosing to have c-sections when it isn't necessary. Not all women can avoid it, but many can. Please help me give Accreta a voice, by sharing the information in this blog. (There are numerous posts with information on Accreta as well as the Accreta team who took such great care of me.)

Hospital day two...

This blog is going to serve two purposes. To share my experiences here and to provide an understanding for this horrifying condition called Placenta Accreta.  According to one of my doctors, this condition goes way beyond high risk pregnancy. He said this condition is the riskiest and most critical of all pregnancy conditions.

I won't go into major details yet as to what Accreta is. One of my doctors talked to me and asked me to be a voice for mothers with Placenta Accreta.  Along with some staff members, I would like to start giving Accreta a voice. There are so many doctors out there with little to no knowledge of Accreta. This means that there a women who die each year because of it.

I am hoping to get some specific medical documents from the staff to better provide true details about Accreta. But for now... In a nutshell, it's a condition where the placenta begins to grow and dig itself into permanent layers of the uterus, resulting in massive and possibly fatal blood loss during delivery.  The risk is primarily with the mother, though because of precautions needed for the mother's safety, most babies will be delivered prematurely.

I was diagnosed with Placenta Accreta on Tuesday January 22nd, 2013.  I was admitted into the hospital on Friday the 25th of Jan. because the team of doctors was very concerned about my spotting since it was so frequently. They said this condition can turn fatal in an instant with severe bleeding. If I am here where they can watch me, then we have much more time to round up the team of specialists (I'll explain more later) and save my life as well as the baby's.

Trever and I both knew that this is where I needed to be as soon as the doctor spoke about admitting me. I am in good hands here. This newly formed team of highly skilled specialists took a year to come together.  They still don't have an official name but I like to think of them as the "Accreta team." They are the only organized group in the country/world of its kind that they are aware of.  This is the absolute best place to be with someone with my condition.

I don't want to scare anyone, I just want to educate and give it a voice. There are a total of 4 women here with my condition. Accreta is on the rise because of all of those opting to have c-sections.  If you have had multiple c-sections and have any form of placenta previa, your odds of having Placenta Accreta are very high.

I will update often about my time here. Many want to know what's going on... This will keep you in the loop. Though feel free to call or text or visit. If I don't answer don't get offended please!  I will try to get back to you later.
